I have had many questions about the school lockdown scheme that I have a patent applied for and have discussed on this blog. Here are some answers:
Q: How does this differ from any access control system's "lockdown" mode?
A: Mostly, because it is not really a complete lockdown. It is more a change of the list of who can have access. First responders, security staff, administrators or whoever is selected can still open doors when they need to. There can even be multiple levels of lockdown so that access can vary by the situation at the moment. People (students, staff, even the threat) can always exit freely. All traffic flow becomes outbound, away from students and away from the classrooms.
Q: Why is this solution so much less expensive than typical access control solutions?
A: Because it does not use anywhere near the amount of equipment and electronics. Instead, it leverages a single access control panel to operate numerous doors through a unique, patented method. Costs are typically 10% of access control solutions. And there are no competitors.
Q: How is the lockdown controlled, or triggerred?
A: Because the system is Internet based, and heirarchical, lockdown can be triggerred at any level and by anyone with access rights. That includes an officer with a cell phone, someone at a central station miles from the scene or even a teacher inside the protected area. The heirarchy allows lockdown by hallway, floor, building, campus, district, city or state - or however you want to arrange it. And lockdown can be "cleared" as buildings or campuses are cleared, from the bottom up. Lockdown can also be triggerred by a "red button" type hardwire activation if desired, or through the use of special access cards.
Q: How do I find out more?
A: Go to www.alicit.com and send us a message. Soon, we will have a dedicated site with more information, so watch this blog or www.alicit.com!

Students and Staff Remain Unprotected
Our schools and universities have still not responded to the urgency of recent shootings and threats. There is technology available that can instantly lockdown every classroom door, without peventing free exit, and allow security staff or first responders to enter at will. Movement can be monitored remotely (either students escaping or attackers changing location). This can be installed for under $400 per door -not the $3000 or more that access control companies want to charge. It is a revolutionary new, patented way to handle school lockdown, and it can be done now - today. It is even compatible with any existing access control or security systems the school may have. And it is entirely Internet based, which allows any authority, anywhere, to trigger it, monitor it and control it. It is not new technology, but a new idea on how to use technology that exists. Schools with old access control systems can bring it into the 21st centrury for 10% of the cost of installing new equipment, and do so with zero down-time. I have seen it installed, and I have seen it work. School and university administrators MUST seek out new technology to keep our kids and college students SAFE. If available technology is ignored, more will likely die in our schools, and administratos will be responsible for failing to take precautions.

More school shootings...
Every week we hear about another one. Someone with a gun running rampant through our schools, threatening our kids and their teachers. It happens more and more every day. Technology is the answer, but there is no fast-track to put it to work. As an inventor and manufacturer, I have solutions that will save lives - and for reasonable cost. But business doesn't seem to care! I don't understand why... Maybe there's no money in it? Not enough profit in protecting our kids. Insufficient shareholder return for saving the lives of the innocent.
Frustrating...
Frustrating...
Why are schools wide open?
We have the technology to lock down all the classroom doors when anything triggers an elevated concern. Classrooms doors will allow anyone to exit, but no one to enter during this time. Access Control companies want thousands per door to do this, but it can be done for 10% of that using an idea that no one else thought of. A simple idea that I am patenting as we speak. And our kids can be safe.
But schools are horrible, laborius labyriths to do ANYTHING with. Technology enters the school setting very slowly, if at all. Even when the price is low.
This is the time when technology should be embraced to protect our children. Gunmen should not be allowed to roam through schools or universities killing teachers and students. There is no excuse for this total lack of concern for safety.
My product lets lockdown occur by building, school, district, city... It is a hierarchical system, and the lockdown can be invoked by first responders, teachers, administrators or anyone with permission to do so.
Very simple, very safe, very effective. Many lives would have been saved already.
